About Course

Behavioural Therapy

Behavioural therapy is an evidence-based psychological approach aimed at identifying and modifying unhealthy or maladaptive behaviours by focusing on observable actions and their environmental triggers. Rooted in the principles of learning theory, particularly classical and operant conditioning, behavioural therapy seeks to understand how behaviours are acquired and maintained and how they can be effectively changed through structured interventions.

This course explores the core principles, techniques, and applications of behavioural therapy, focusing on practical interventions that promote positive behavioural change and emotional regulation. Participants will gain insight into how behaviours develop over time and how specific patterns can be reshaped using reinforcement, punishment, modelling, and other evidence-based strategies.

Key highlights of the course include:

  • Theoretical foundations of behavioral therapy, including contributions from B.F. Skinner, Ivan Pavlov, and Albert Bandura

  • The role of positive and negative reinforcement, extinction, and punishment in shaping behavior

  • Use of functional behavior assessments (FBA) to identify antecedents and consequences of behavior

  • Development of behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) tailored to individual needs

  • Applications in treating a wide range of conditions such as anxiety disorders, ADHD, OCD, phobias, and autism spectrum disorder

  • Techniques such as exposure therapy, systematic desensitization, token economies, and behavioral rehearsal

  • Strategies for skill-building, habit formation, and relapse prevention

Behavioural therapy is especially effective because it is measurable, goal-orientated, and adaptable across various age groups and settings, including schools, clinics, rehabilitation centres, and home environments. By the end of this course, learners will be equipped to design and implement behavioural interventions with confidence, using tools that are grounded in research and refined through clinical practice.
